2009 RVHS SHELTER
OPEN HOUSE
On Saturday September 19th the
Rogue Valley Humane Society opened its doors (and kennels) to
the public for their 2nd annual Open House. In spite of several
other significant events taking place in town this weekend the
turn out was consistent through out the afternoon.
Aside from holding tours of the
shelter itself (and all the residents) there were vendors, training
classes, drawings, TV News coverage and our famous Shelter Dogs
with all the trimmings. As always, this was all in support of
our animals.
Many thanks to the volunteers
from the shelter, the shelter staff who donated their time, all
those who attended and pulled out their wallets to buy raffle
tickets. It truly was a group effort.
As always, everything we raised
will go directly to help our never ending goal of saving animals
in distress or abandonment and making sure they all find a good
home. We are a no kill shelter so some of our guys have been
with us a while and will be until they are placed... maybe with
you?
Many changes, all for the better,
have taken place at our shelter in the last year and those who
came out saw them first hand. If you haven't been here for a
while stop by and visit. You can also arrange a private tour
in advance (during business hours) and who knows, maybe you'll
find the new love of your life.
Finally, please support the generous
local merchants who donated services or goods to this cause.
See their names at the bottom of this page.
The first thing our visitors
see now is one of the improvements we are especially proud of.
The newly finished Gary Mills Memorial Pavilion and landscaping
surrounding it all done with donations and volunteer labor. For
more go to: RVHS Gazebo Garden
The friendly shelter staff was
on hand to give tours, show animals and make sure everyone was
happy. From left to right: Tim, Tanya, Manager Margaret Varner,
Tylene and Josh.
Tanya was out early getting the
dogs into the runs for a day of fun in the sun with lots of company.
Volunteers put a lot of miles
on our dog walking trail that surrounds the property giving the
K9s the daily exercise they need.
The view from the parking lot
is the expanse of land that contains the dog runs and just part
of the walking trail. It is a long term goal at the shelter to
further improve this area but unfortunately with the funding
crisis that will be slow in coming. In the mean time the volunteers
do as much as they can to make the area presentable and a fun
place for the dogs.
Meghan Preston from K9 Care where
set up and ready to go well before the noon starting time. This
local small business provides - Pet/House Sitting - Pet Taxi
- Dog Walking - Pet Pooh Pick-Up. Call: 541-441-4224 or visit
her website at: K9 Care
Another popular stop for the
visitors was the new-in-town Faithful Friend booth of Diane and
Kenway Mead. They have a great line of hypoallergenic treats
and jerky for your best friends. They also produce "Memory
Savers" custom CDs and DVDs of pets, vacations, family gatherings
etc. They can be contacted at 541-244-1619.
RVHS board members Angie Burger
and Linda Bradley Lloyd did a fine job of selling raffle and
50/50 tickets.
The "new" shelter entrance/office
is as clean as a medical facility and serves as a pleasant welcoming
area for all who visit.
Outside shelter volunteers
served up our famous Shelter Dogs, chips and drinks.
The Josephine County
Animal Control was represented.
Chicy Hair-ums were on hand with
their wears and shelter support. They feature Couture Pet Accessories.
Our products are beautiful, stylish, and fun. Visit their website

Our dog "kids"
were out on display and got a chance to ham it up and get a lot
of attention.
The adoptable cat kids
also drew constant attention playing in their outdoor areas.
Of course the kittens
got lots of ooohos as well.
"Hey, what about
me?"
"And ME!"
