PET PORTRAIT PROGRAM
 |
On Saturday October 2nd the Rogue
Valley Humane Society opened its doors (and kennels) to the public
for their 3rd annual Open House. In spite of several other significant
events taking place in town this weekend the turn out was consistent
throughout the afternoon and those who came had lots of fun.
Aside from holding tours of the
shelter itself (and all the residents) there were vendors, RVHS
merchandise, great pastries, photo ops with the shelter scarecrow
and Fred the Daily Courier mascot dog.
Many thanks to the volunteers
from the shelter, the shelter staff who donated their time, all
those who attended and pulled out their wallets to buy raffle
tickets and other goodies. It truly was a group effort.
As always, everything we raised
will go directly to help our never ending goal of saving animals
in distress or abandonment and making sure they all find a good
home. We are a no kill shelter so some of our guys have been
with us a while and will be until they are placed... maybe with
you?
Many changes, all for the better,
have taken place at our shelter in the last couple of years and
those who came out saw them first hand. If you haven't been here
for a while stop by and visit. You can also arrange a private
tour in advance (during business hours) and who knows, maybe
you'll find the new love of your life.
Welcome to the RVHS
One of the first visitors
of the day was Mary with her chauffeur. How cute is this.
The new RVHS Pet
Portrait Program was well represented with Michael Vincent
pointing out all the particulars to the visitors.
RVHS board member Kenway Mead
graciously dressed up in his best scarecrow out fit and posed
for photos. Here shelter manager Margaret Varner shows off the
shelters newest puppys up for adoption.

A huge hit with everyone was
Fred the Daily Courier dog who posed with some of the shelter
staff and volunteers.

Marilyn Burbank showed off one
of her three young goat pets. These are the last of a large goat
rescue that has been ongoing this year.

Fred has his eyes on
one of the cat rooms but was a good boy.

RVHS volunteer Carol
was in charge of selling the raffle tickets.
These great cupcakes
were made and donated by Slice of Heaven Bakery.
Just after noon the RSVP
Serenaders arrived.
The biggest treat for the RVHS
staff, volunteers and board members was the appearance of Jack
(aka Braveheart) who is part of one of the shelters biggest success
stories. Jack, who now has a great home, was the runt of Freedom's
litter. He was within an hour or so of never being born and what
a loss that would have been. More at: The
Truman Fund
What a handsome boy...
and very smart as well.
The RSVP Serenaders set up in
the Gary Mills Memorial Pavilion and proceeded to do what they
do best... sing.
One of their final numbers was
the appropriate, "How Much is That Doggie in the Window".
It was the first time most of us had ever heard the entire song.
Back to Jack, he wanted to see
Mom so the two got together in one of the play areas. After months
of rebab Freedom is ready for a good loving home of her own.

The day was ended with
a raffle drawing for the goodies donated for the cause.

Many thanks to all those
who stopped by and for all the kind donations!
To make our Gazebo Pet Park even
more special we are now offering custom Memorial or Honorary
Stepping Stones to be placed in a prominent spot within the landscaping.
