Volunteer Opportunities with RVHS

You can be a valuable asset to the lives of these homeless cats and dogs. It is an excellent life experience, and very much appreciated, whether it is an hour a week, one day per week, or more.

We need quality volunteer personnel who are dedicated, responsible, honorable, and who will provide the service they commit to. We strive for pride of excellence at RVHS.

Not all volunteer activity involves direct contact with the animals, but yet is vitally important to help us provide a top quality sanctuary for them.

If you are interested in being a part of our team, please contact our Office Manager during our listed business hours.

Some of our volunteer opportunities include:

Adoption Outreach

We need dedicated, responsible animal-loving people, with knowledge and empathy for both dogs and cats, to be Rogue Valley Humane Society Representatives at Medford's PetsMart store. This includes safe, enclosed transport of animals to and from PetsMart in Medford, remaining on-site for the day (Saturday), being available to provide available info about them to those interested, handing out business cards, directing people to look at our RVHS notebook maintained there. This is a highly public representation of our sanctuary. Proper manners with the public, gentle, secure handling of the animals, safe driving record and habits, as well as the other above-mentioned qualities, are required.

Customer Care/Front Desk Assistant

Front Office basic support for when we get swamped! Please contact our Office Manager for specific needs in this area.

Equipment & Maintenance

Cleaning cages, kennels, runs etc.

People With Skills

If you are an electrician, plumber, carpenter, handy man, landscaper etc who would like to donate your talents for the betterment of our animals please let us know. We really do need you!

Dog Exercising

Walking, playing with, and generally giving dogs much-needed attention and positive human contact to help them become more adoptable.

Cat Socialization

Gently soothe, comfort, and play with cats to help them overcome the trauma of relocation transition and to help ease them through their natural fear of unfamiliar humans.

Feeding and Watering Dogs

It is vital to ensure that the dogs have fresh water at least 2x daily in cleaned bowls. You may volunteer to water dogs once or twice daily, with specific days to be arranged with Volunteer Coordinator in charge. Feeding schedule, arranged with Volunteer Coordinator in charge.

Grounds Maintenance

Performing minor repairs, painting, tree/shrub planting and care, general grounds keeping. Our property is looking better all the time, but we could use some help with our flowers and plants. We also need some help planting the garden around the Gary Mills Memorial Pavilion.

Thrift Store - Donations and Volunteers Needed

The Rogue Valley Humane Society operates a Thrift Store, located at 1169 Redwood Ave. We have been successfully operating this store for many years. The income is very important to the financial stability of the society. This year the monthly income has been steadily rising. These proceeds help pay for food, care and the labor to operate the animal shelter. We do all this with a very small group of committed volunteers. At the present time we only have eight volunteers that are very dedicated and come in rain or shine. The need for more volunteers is always present. The public support with their donations of usable items in good condition is much appreciated. We thank you for your support. For additional information on the Thrift Store, please call 955-3367.

Empathy Education Development Coordinators

We need people to assist in developing and teaching such topics as Responsible Pet Ownership and Empathy for Dogs and Cats, for schools and other community outlets.

Fund Raising Assistance

Fund raising is an ongoing need of all nonprofit organizations. There is a lot of competition for the donations people are able to make. We would appreciate volunteers who are able to participate in this effort to raise money for the cats and dogs. If you have a great idea and want to run with it, let's get together. If you would like to participate in one event a year, give us a call. If you are able serve on committee, let's talk. The opportunities are boundless.

Pet Transportation

Animal lovers are needed to help transport cats or dogs to the veterinarian when
they are ill or are going to be spayed or neutered. You will be reimbursed for mileage so the only cost is your time and your help frees up time for our Manager to focus on other areas. Volunteering can be as little as 2 to 4 hours a week on the day[s) of your choice. Pay us a visit - you will love being part of our team!!

Newsletter Assistance

Help is needed putting the newsletter together. This year we were able to publish three issues and in 2009 our goal is to publish four. Writers are needed to come up with some good ideas and to report what is new and exciting at RVHS.

Everybody is good at something. Your something, no matter how unimportant you may think it is, can probably help our shelter and the animals find a good home. If you love animals, contact the staff at the RVHS and offer your help. You'll be surprised how useful you can be.
